Agriculture is projected for modernization

In the face of fast growing of urbanization, Binh Duong province’s agricultural sector has made new development steps to become modernized by 2020 as planned by the sector.

Seafood sees increasing production yearly.

In general assessment, Binh Duong agricultural sector in 1997 to 2009 period has faced up with climate, disease risks, and reducing land for production; however, the growth is maintained averagely 4.92% a year, of which fishery saw highest growth of 14.2% and was accounted for second large proportion of agriculture-forestry-fishery ratio. Although agriculture only grows by 4.8% a year, it still dominates 97-98% of the ratio in which forestry saw lowest growth rate and percentage.

The transition and transformation are more clearly within the sub-sectors where husbandry and services increase while plant crops growing declines. As a result, specialized regions with rubber trees and fruits are developed along side with high-tech and eco-model agriculture.

Husbandry has greatly grown, creating clear transformation of agricultural production value. Industrialized and centralized husbandry has helped to create high quality husbandry secured from diseases. By the end of 2009, main livestock in the province are diversified from cattle to pigs, goats, and poultries.

Meanwhile, forestry grows averagely 4.08% a year and has gained VND 108 billion of value in 2009. Total fishery production reached 5,442 tons in 2009 covering 405 ha of rearing areas.

Despite significant achievements mentioned above, limitation, obstacles, and stubborn difficulties have negatively affected the growth with narrower agricultural land, higher material price, and selling price fluctuation that turn down investments. Another general reason was that policies are inaccessible to farmers as beneficiaries.

In the latest meeting for inspection and planning of agriculture, forestry, and fishery development to 2020, delegations proposed practical ideas for development that confirm the subjective existence of the sector in general socio-economic development.

It is determined as strategic approach that sustainable development of agriculture in attachment with rural build-up highly promotes the roles of farmers who contributes to economic growth and maintains political stabilization, national defense, scenery places, and eco-environment protection.

The province also identified application of science and technology as driving force of agriculture, forestry, and fishery development so that the projection of 3.5 to 4% growth a year will be met.

In the coming time, provincial agriculture will be divided to the north and the southern regions with distribution of rubber trees, fruits, vegetable, centralized husbandry, forestry, and urban green areas.

Addressing the meeting, Provincial People’s Committee Standing Deputy Chairman Le Thanh Cung confirmed the role of agriculture, forestry, and fishery development as servants to industrialization and modernization of the province.
