The center’s effective models raise local species and plants’ quality.
Binh Duong Agricultural Promotion Center has been established since May, 1990. Over the past 20 years, the center’s activities have contributed to modernize local agricultural industry.Highlighted achievements
Through 20 years of establishment and development, the center has met basic requirements of technical transfer in agricultural production for local farmers. From 1990-2010, the center has conducted 138 pilot models and 9 project programs. Of these, 173 pilot models of rubber tree growing, planting bamboo trees to curve bamboo shoots, planting safe vegetables and among others have been conducted.
In addition, the center has paid much attention to developing poultry and cattle breeding models. With its efforts, the center has contributed to change agricultural structure and develop the quality of species and plants. From 1997 to 2009, the center helped surge local agro-forestry and fishery industry’s output. In 2009 alone, the output value of local agro-forestry and fishery industry was at over VND2tril, a 4.1% rise from 2008.
The achievements have created a stable income for local farmers, eyeing farm produce exports and job placement. Assessing the center’s attachment to local farmers, Doan Van Chien, the farmstead proprietor in Tan Uyen district, said during the process of technical transfer, the center has facilitated local farmers’ productive development. The center’s biggest achievement is that a strong development of poultry, cattle and fishery in the locality has been created.
Additionally, the center has also paid much attention to agricultural technique training for local farmers. The unit has held over 2,000 training classes for over 112,000 farmers and organized 533 seminars on sharing productive experiences for over 26,000 farmers, forwarded 300 model visits to over 12,000 farmers and so on.
Challenges in the future
However, the center’s activities remain shortcomings. Building and launching effective models and projects remain limited. Moreover, means for training and technical transfer remains deficient.
Addressing the summing up conference, Pham Van Tinh, vice director of the Southern Agricultural Promotion Center highly assessed the local agricultural center’s results and stressing that the center should have breakthrough models and open training classes to improve officials’ capacity.
The center’s tasks in the future will develop local agriculture towards safe and sustainable development. Its 2010-2010 period mission is to develop animal husbandry concentratively, ensure bio-safety, control epidemic diseases and assure environmental hygiene.
In addition, the center should create breakthroughs in productivity and quality, mobilize bodies and individuals inside and outside province to join in local agriculture promotion and so on.
