Electricity still a “hot” problem

Electricity is a “hot” problem for the whole society, especially after the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) has decided to increase commercial electricity price by 15.3%...Hence, boosting measures to save electricity is a thing that needs to be done immediately.

 Still facing shortage

According to statistics, in 2010, EVN put another new power plants with capacity of 1,890MW. But, supply did not meet demand. Whilst, it is expected that the country’s additional charge will further increased by 16.34% compared to 2010.

It is predicted that EVN’s power supply will face difficulties in output

It is known that electricity resource from hydroelectricity accounts for 40% of capacity of the national electricity grid, but hydroelectricity reservoirs have not yet hoarded enough water during the last rainy reason. Thus, the balance between supply and demand in electricity for production and daily life has become the annual refrain.

2011’s electricity supply plan has been implemented in localities nationwide. Accordingly, 117.3 billion kWh of electricity will be supplied for 2011. To meet the demand, the power plants of EVN and other units must work with capacity of 3,192 MW.

In southern Binh Duong province, commercial electricity output reached 5.3 billion kWk in 2010 and is expected to increase by 12.5% in 2011. In the first three months of this year alone, the province’s commercial electricity output amounted to 1.1 billion kWh…

 Power saving measures implemented drastically

Together with other localities, Binh Duong province has made efforts to deal with the current power shortage. Many power-saving measures have been frequently implemented by the province.

The local electricity sector will also pay attention to improving its power grid in the rural region to reduce power loss to 15%...and well realize a plan to replace normal lamps by fluorescent ones for poor households in the remote region.

In addition, the local electricity sector will team up with provincial Department of Industry and Trade to disseminate and mobilize State agencies, organizations and households to regularly maintain their lighting systems, air conditioners…for effective use to save power; limit the use of equipment with great power consumption on peak hours. Power users need to turn off power equipment if unnecessary…

For businesses with three working shifts a day, they need to reduce the use of power on peak hours; bravely replace the old equipment and production lines by the new ones to reduce power costs and product prices
