Goods price for the Tet holiday: increase in traditional markets, stable in supermarkets

Tet holiday is heating up across markets although there is no sudden increase of price among foods and raw meat, seafood, and poultry.

Functional agencies have made great efforts to stabilize the market by increasing necessary goods for Tet holiday. And when the Tet holiday is drawing near in days, the prices start to rise. Market survey shows that food such as pork, chicken, beef, fish, and egg has risen. The highest rise falls up foods and raw foods. Aqua foods increase by VND 2,000 to VND 5,000 a kg while seafood is on the same tendency. Fresh water shrimp is at VND 200,000 per kg for big size and VND 100,000 to VND 150,000 per kg for small size while crayfish is at VND 280,000 to VND 300,000 per kg. Cuttle-fish varies from VND 110,000 to VND 130,000 per kg.

Goods price is stable in supermarkets.

Meanwhile, meat of all kinds starts to increase in price for chicken and duck, pork and beef. Dried food such as bamboo shoots and mushrooms have increased by VND 1,000 – VND 3,000.

Moreover, floral and fruit decoration have signs to increase at very high rate due to rising demands, said the merchants. However, vegetables have no signs of price increase.

In a different world from traditional market, the price within supermarkets is stable. Leading staffs of Binh Duong Vinatex said that the supermarket has prepared about VND 25 billion of products to satisfy the demand in and after Tet holiday. The market is experienced with seasonal consumption tendency and will distribute their products in the right way. For example, in two weeks prior to Tet holiday, people tend to buy garments and household products while they will buy foods in the 10 days before Tet holiday. By knowing the on-going tendency, the supermarket believes that their sales will increase by 25 – 30% than last year.

Binh Duong Citimart Director Duong Tran Dat Tien has also confirmed that there would be no changes of price for the coming days of Tet holiday.
