Prices of essential goods at year end under scrutiny

Many essential items like petrol, oil, gas, food…are seeing stability in prices. But, the national economy now faces many challenges regarding high inflation risk, natural disasters, epidemic risks…. They will also elements to affect the prices of essential items at year end.

According to provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the consumer price index (CPI) in the province in the first 6 months of 2010 increased by 3.67% compared to December 2009.  Housing, electricity, water, fuel and building material still saw the highest growth at 9.58% and 15.56%. Household goods and appliances grew by 3.55% and 5.37%; drinks and tobacco 3.51% and 4.66%. Textiles, garments and shoes posted increase of 3.42% and 5.84%…

It is predicted that the June CPI herein had no sudden increase, but it is likely to sharply rise from now till year end, due to the impacts from bad weather, epidemics…among others. The Ministry of Finance has also taken many measures in a synchronous way to stabilize market prices.

To well realize the target of stabilizing market prices, provincial Department of Industry and Trade will tighten control over the prices of essential items like electricity, coal, petrol, oil and food; team up with sectors and localities to set up wholesale and retail systems and increase outlets with a wide range of products across the province. It will also cooperate with provincial Department of Finance, Market Control Department and localities to closely control market prices and give strict punishment to the cases causing unusual price fluctuations…

According to Nguyen Thi Dien, director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the prices of market goods not only face fluctuation during the upcoming Tet holiday, but also see complicated development at present. Hence, giving financial supports for businesses to contribute to stabilizing goods prices during the year will be better than those implemented in each period. This measure will also create favorable conditions for businesses to bravely develop production for an abundant supply of goods to decrease goods prices…
