The local authorities have over time paid attention to building markets in the countryside. The birth of these markets is seen as an urgent need to meet the increasing shopping demand of the rural residents. It also contributes to boost trade-service development in remote communes to narrow the gap between rural areas and urban ones.
As of late 2009, the whole province had 60 markets built in the countryside. But now, there are only 12 communal markets getting standards by the Ministry of Construction or 16.9% of total. Under the province’s process of building the new countryside, all communes must have markets this year.
However, the birth of markets in the countryside has not walked abreast with the growth of localities yet and has still seen many hurdles for change. Many localities have only upgraded their rural markets, owing to the limited sources of building expenditure while socialization in the field has also not achieved high results yet.
Another fact is that several rural markets have worked inefficiently because of few buyers. It is known that the majority of rural residents prefer buying goods at street markets and variety stores. Commodities lacking abundance, residents’ low income are also among the reasons for the ineffective operation of rural markets at present.
The task of building rural markets is of great significance for the growth process of rural areas. If having good investment, they will be a driving force for social-economic development in the countryside.
