State President Truong Tan Sang on September 9 attended the two sessions on food security, creative growth and the world and Asia-Pacific’s economic situations in the framework of the 20th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Vladivostok, Russia. At the first meeting, Russian President Putin stressed that food security has become the global challenge and members of APEC need to guarantee food security by increasing investment for agriculture, improving food production and productivity, and promoting private and public cooperation. Speaking at the meeting, State President Truong Tan Sang asserted that efforts of guaranteeing food security have to be linked with the national development strategy, economic restructuring process, the implementation of Millennium Development Goals, and efforts in response to climate change. The development of agriculture and rural areas is regarded as the first breakthrough for renovation and an effective method to help Viet Nam stabilize macro-economy, maintain the growth rate and guarantee social security, he added. The Vietnamese State President proposed APEC members boost up cooperation with the aim of assisting developing countries in ensuring food security.
