To guarantee safe and uninterrupted power supply thorough dry season

The prolonged hot weather in recent days has pushed the electricity consumption in the area to a new high level, potentially causing a power grid breakdown due to overload. Agencies, offices, factories, and households are recommended to pay attention to safe, economical and efficient use of electricity to minimize the risk of overload and save customers money.

T1 Tan Hiep electrical substation is invested to meet electricity demand in Binh Duong New City area.

 Demand for electricity consumption increases

Le Hong Khanh, Head of Sales Department, Binh Duong Electricity Company, said that over the first 3 months of 2021, in addition to the increasing demand for electricity, companies also resumed their production to fulfill first export orders of 2021; therefore, demand for electricity consumption increased. However, Binh Duong Electricity Company has done a good job in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to serve the demand of daily life and production activities.

According to Mr. Le, over the first 3 months of 2021, Binh Duong Electricity Company's commercial electricity output was estimated at 3,394 million kWh, completing 22.88% of the target assigned by Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), up 5.17 % over the same period in 2020. In addition, Binh Duong Electricity Company proactively implemented a plan for stable and continuous power supply to serve the demand of people's entertainment activities during New Year and Lunar New Year 2021 holidays.

Invest to meet load demand

Phan Thanh Lam, Deputy Director of Binh Duong Electricity Company, said that in dry season 2021, to improve power quality, reduce losses and improve reliability and safety of power supply, EVN SPC is implementing investment procedures for a project of upgrading and developing medium- and low-voltage grid in key towns and cities of Binh Duong province (KfW3), with a total investment of 121 billion VND. In which, the new volume is nearly 116km of medium-voltage line; 24.7km of low-voltage transmission line, 34 transformer stations with a total capacity of 5,750 kVA. "At present, the above projects are being sped up to be completed and soon put into use in order to satisfy load demand in the area and meet electricity demand of the people and businesses", Mr. Phan said.

In addition to investment in electricity projects, the fact that customers actively invest in solar power systems has also helped to reduce the load in dry season. As of March 2021, the whole province had 4,113 rooftop solar power projects, of which 2,789 domestic customers and 1,324 outside customers were connected to the grid. The total installed capacity is nearly 808,133 kWp, in which the domestic customers were nearly 32,710 kWp, outside customers were more than 775,423 kWp, the power output generated to the grid was 136 million kWh.

According to the electricity supplier, securing electricity supply in peak months of dry season 2021 is still challenging. If the hot weather continues to persist, the demand for electricity would increase dramatically, causing local overload to the grid, a risk of electrical equipment problems at distribution grid due to overload, causing temporary blackout. To households, prolonged intense hot weather also affects the operation and reduces the efficiency of electrical devices and equipment. Therefore, electricity bills in hot months are likely to rise higher than in other months.

In order to minimize the risk of partial overload of power grid and improve the reliability of the power system, households, agencies, offices, and enterprises using electricity are recommended to thoroughly apply solutions to save electricity, such as turning off unused devices, using highly efficient electrical equipment, setting the air conditioner temperature above 26 degrees, changing the habit of electricity consumption by limiting use electrical equipment when not needed during peak hours (from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm daily).
