Ensuring supply of commodities in all situations

In order to ensure the supply of essential commodities to cope with the complicated developments of Covid-19 pandemic, enterprises, distributors and markets in the province have proactively stockpiled goods in a large quantity at people’s demand for shopping.

Abundant commodities

Under the instruction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, provincial Party Committee, Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) have had specific plans on ensuring commodities and implementing price stabilization to serve people in all situations. Accordingly, provincial DoIT has set up many scenarios while working with key businesses to implement a plan on stockpiling essential commodities for supplying under the regulation of competent authorities in  necessary cases.

Commodities are full at supermarkets, so people should not buy massively, gather in crowds. In picture: Consumers choose commodities at Thu Dau Mot-based Co.opMart supermarket

Provincial DoIT has also proposed commercial centers, supermarkets, convenience stores, management boards of traditional markets and enterprises in this field in the province to effectively implement a plan of provincial People's Committee on market stabilization for essential goods to combat Covid-19 pandemic in the new context. In addition, provincial DoIT has asked for units to strengthen management, ensuring to well serve people’s demand for shopping.

Along with that, provincial DoIT has also closely coordinated with functional agencies to strengthen inspection and strictly handle production and business establishments that have acts of hoarding goods for speculation; take advantage of the pandemic to sell products with unclear origin, poor quality. During the complicated development period of Covid-19 pandemic, provincial DoIT has also advised people to set their mind at rest for Covid-19 prevention and control, not to buy stockpiles in a large amount, causing waste and imbalance between supply and demand while avoiding buying fake and poor-quality products. Every citizen should become a wise consumer, contributing to stabilizing the market and joining hands to fight the pandemic.

Talking to us, leaders of goods supply units in the province confirmed that they have increased their reserves to ensure a steady supply of commodities with stable prices to the market in the next 6 months, especially for anti-Covid-19 items. They have increased their reserve for all items by three to five times  compared to normal days. Therefore, people set their mind at rest because there will never be a shortage of goods during the period of social distancing for Covid-19 control and prevention. Province-based supermarkets and commercial centers operate throughout, so people should not rush to shop, gathering too much, which will increase the risk of the outbreak of the pandemic and may clog shopping channels.

Explaining about increase in price for a number of fruit and vegetable products in the past few days, Nguyen Phuong Dong, Deputy Director of provincial Market Management Department said that in recent days, Ho Chi Minh city-based wholesale markets have temporarily stopped operating. A number of fruit and vegetable products in some traditional markets were in short supply, there was a phenomenon of local price increase. “Through monitoring and evaluating people’s consumer demand, the supply capacity of goods of distribution systems in the province remain stable, meeting people’s needs. Provincial Market Management Department will have sanctions for cases increasing goods prices deliberately…”.

Ensuring safety

Along with good preparation about goods, suppliers from markets to supermarkets have seriously implemented regulations to prevent the risk of Covid-19 spreading in trading activities. The management boards of the markets have also informed and guided people to comply with regulations when shopping; arranged staff to check people’s body temperature, instruct them to  disinfect their hands when shopping, regularly clean up; spray disinfectant in areas with high traffic. In order to support customers to shop conveniently and fight the pandemic effectively, supermarkets and stores in the province have also increase home delivery for both customers with direct and online shopping. They have also paid attention to importing goods, ensuring safe procedures from quarantine, transportation, etc.

In terms of the method of distribution of goods in order to minimize direct contact and ensure safe measures in goods transactions, provincial DoIT has required localities to propagandize and mobilize people to use methods buying goods online or by phone, etc.Provincial DoIT has also suggested businesses to distribute their goods through e-commerce channels, promote online ordering activities, home delivery, and carry out safe measures in shipping and receiving commodities.
