Mushroom mushrooms success

Since July 2009, Phu Giao District’s Economic Office has cooperated with Binh Duong Nong Lam Middle school to instruct farmers how to plant mushroom. Participants attend the class in 10 days of theory and 30 of practicing planting. Besides, the project offers VND 6mln to each participant as a household. The amount will help to build steaming oven and planting camps.

Many households in Phu Giao earn higher thanks to planting mushroom.

Among 19 participants, about 2 to 3 households begin to harvest. Preliminary estimation shows that for each camp invests 500 to 600 packs of mushroom earth-bed and later will be expanded to 7,000 packs or even 10,000 packs. Nguyen Tan Long – Vice Chief of Phu Giao Economic Office said that economic value of the mushroom is high thanks to good planting development and promising output.

Participants to this project are not the first ones to plant mushroom in Phu Giao. However, they differ from others by well-equipped guidelines as well as fund support to develop their produces. Moreover, the connection among them will resolve output problems and material supports.

Mr. Nguyen Sy Hong Nam said that he had developed 9,000 packs of mushroom earth-bed for mushrooms including Fomes, Pleurotus spp, and Peziza. Mr. Nam can earn average VND 300,000 in small scale harvest a day at VND 15,000 a kg. His mushroom camp can produce about 400kg of mushroom a day if he expands his harvest. He said that he wanted to plant mushroom a long time ago but had no chance and ability. Once the project was introduced, he joined in and later on developed his own mushroom camp from initial VND 60mln.

The preliminary success of mushroom planting project in Phu Giao has pointed out the necessity of vocational training for farmers. And they have had their own examples.
