 Small rubber plantations have brought many households in the province’s rural area a well-off life  Binh Duong is one of the localities with the big area of growing rubber trees. The province now has more than 125,000 ha of rubber, 65% of which are small rubber plantations. And there are around 70% of small rubber plantations under exploitation.

The movement of developing small rubber plantations has loomed large across the province, bringing practical efficiency. This has contributed to raising the lives of the local farmers and developing the local rural infrastructure. Thanks to small rubber plantations, many households in the province have enjoyed a new life.

As of late 2009, the total area of small rubber plantations in Phu Giao district was more than 17,000 ha, increasing by 2,000 ha compared to 2008. There have  appeared many well-off households from small rubber plantations. Nguyen Tan Long, deputy head of Phu Giao district’s Division for Economics said: “Small rubber plantations herein brought the local rubber growers a more prosperous Tet. Currently, they feel very heartened because of price instability and good weather. It is predicted that the prices of latex rubber will further see instability this year”.

However, the development of small rubber plantations by the local farmers have still faced a lot of obstacles for change. This development, therefore, needs a reasonable zoning from the State. The transfer of sci-tech advancements on cultivation and exploitation of the small rubber plantations is also very important to help them raise their productivity.

If having a concrete zoning and a long-term development orientation, small rubber plantations across the province will uphold their advantages.
