Deploying the construction of smart city, innovation zones and Binh Duong science and technology zone in the next phase, Becamex IDC Corporation and the Connected Places Catapult (CPC - UK) have just organized an online conference to sign development cooperation. The conference is one of the activities in the working program of the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on visit and work in the UK and France and attend the COP26 Conference.

Witnessing the signing ceremony at the UK bridgehead was Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications; at the Binh Duong bridgehead was Ms. Emily Hamblin, Consul General of the United Kingdom in Ho Chi Minh city, Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Head of the provincial National Assembly Delegation, Mr. Vo Van Minh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex IDC Corporation and leaders of provincial departments and agencies.
By signing, Becamex IDC and CPC identified specific areas to strengthen cooperation including programs, initiatives and formal agreement formation in the following areas of scope and roadmap in the next stage of the innovation journey of smart city, innovation zone, Binh Duong Science and Technology Industrial Zone, establishing a memorandum of understanding reflecting the 5-year development roadmap of Binh Duong, the cooperation between Becamex IDC and CPC, building innovation programs, attracting quality foreign direct investment into Binh Duong among others.
In 2016, Becamex IDC accompanied the province to build the Binh Duong smart city project and now the Binh Duong Innovation Zone project. It has been determined that Binh Duong needs to take innovation and science and technology as its core. Becamex IDC has also joined Binh Duong in developing the project of forming a science and technology industrial park. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex IDC Corporation, said: “Becamex IDC and CPC identify the cooperation as an ideal opportunity for Binh Duong to connect more strongly with technology enterprises, entrepreneurship and innovation of the UK, bringing the experience into the development process of Binh Duong in the new period".
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung added that the UK's technology, start-up and innovation businesses have a very good opportunity to research and understand the potential market in Vietnam, increasing cooperation opportunities of long-term in Vietnam in particular and the Asian region in general. CPC is the bridge that brings many British businesses to Binh Duong, helping Binh Duong to step by step upgrade its ecosystem from labor-intensive production to innovation.
Dr. Amy Hochadel, International Business Director of CPC, said: “After researching, we believe that this will be a sustainable cooperation between CPC and Becamex, between Vietnam and the UK. Becamex IDC's innovation is a catalytic relationship similar to the goals we set when implementing our smart city projects. Becamex IDC is our desired partner and Binh Duong is also the most suitable place for innovation activities.”
It can be said that innovation is the key for Binh Duong to develop sustainable socio-economic status and successfully build a smart city. Believing that the cooperation will make an important contribution to Binh Duong promoting innovation and science and technology and completing the goal of building a smart city.
