Province strives to reach at least US$16.5 billion in wood and forest product export

Early December 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with provincial People's Committee and Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association held a conference on "Evaluating results in 2021 and discussing solutions to implement the local target on wood and forest product export" with the theme of "Vietnamese wood industry: Raising the position - Linking to reach out". In the province, attending the event were Le Quoc Doanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Mai Hung Dung, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice-Chairman of provincial People's Committee, together with leaders of departments and associations of the wood sector.

The conference reviewed achievements done by the sector in 2021, defined challenges and gave development orientations in the coming time, solutions to achieve export targets for the following year. In 2021, despite facing many difficulties, due to Covid-19 pandemic, the wood and forest product processing industry’s export value was estimated at over US$15.6 billion, up over 18% compared to 2020. The industry’s trade surplus was estimated at US$ 12.6 billion, up 18.4% compared to 2020. At the conference, delegates discussed solutions to accomplish targets in 2022, striving to bring the export value of forest products to US$ 16.5 billion and above, up 5.7% compared to 2021.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dung emphasized important contributions by the wood processing sector to the local economic development. In 2021, the sector’s export turnover accounted for 18.6% and nearly 40% of the province and country’s total export value, respectively. He noted that the sector needs to focus on developing a large-scale material area to be able to supply all the southern provinces, forming up industrial parks and compounds that are specialized in wood processing industry, creating a linkage chain and forming a center for displaying and distributing products for all industries in the province...
